În anul școlar 2021-2022, 9 mai a picat într-o zi de luni. Chiar dacă anul trecut am avut clasa pregătitoare, mi-am dorit să marchez, cumva, evenimentul.
Le-am explicat piticoților ce sărbătorim în data de 9 mai, ce este Uniunea Europeană (având grijă să insist că nu este același lucru cu Europa – continentul – și că nu toate țările din Europa fac parte și din Uniunea Europeană), precum și imnul și steagul Uniunii Europene. Am utilizat, parțial, prezentarea powerpoint România și Uniunea Europeană a celor de la Twinkl, care este foarte bine realizată. Doar că la clasa pregătitoare nu mi s-a părut relevant să discut despre instituții, populație, suprafață, ani ori avantajele de a fi un stat membru al Uniunii Europene, așa că am sărit slide-urile respective.
Prima activitate pe care am desfășurat-o, pe echipe, a fost un puzzle geografic. Am descărcat harta cu statele membre ale Uniunii Europene de pe pagina oficială a Uniunii Europene și am transformat-o într-un puzzle pe care apoi l-am listat pe coli A3, color și am decupat toate piesele de puzzle, având grijă să le strâng în plicuri pentru fiecare echipă. După care am împărțit câte o coală A3 și lipici (stick) fiecărei echipe.La tabla SMART am proiectat harta completă a statelor membre UE, astfel încât copiii să se poată ajuta de modelul finalizat. Le-a plăcut acest exercițiu și nu le-a luat deloc mult să-l finalizeze.
Cea de a doua activitate a pornit de la o altă resursă Twinkl, anume Careul de cuvinte cu țări din Europa (joc online de geografie). Trebuie să spun că, la seria aceasta, terminasem de parcurs toate literele alfabetului până în luna mai și toți copiii știau deja să citească. Bineînțeles, în ritmuri diferite și cu abilități de înțelegere a mesajului citit mai bine sau mai puțin bine dezvoltate. De aceea am avut grijă, când am format echipele, să fie cât mai echilibrate, astfel încât copiii care știu deja să citească repede și bine să îi poată sprijini pe cei care încă mai au nevoie de ajutor. Nu le-a fost ușor să se orienteze în acest careu, chiar dacă mai lucraseră genul acesta de exercițiu, fiindcă nu erau familiarizați cu denumirile unora dintre statele membre ale Uniunii Europene (deosebit de problematică a fost Malta). Așa că util ar fi să discutați puțin care sunt statele membre și chiar să le notați, cu majuscule, la tablă. Eu am listat careul pe coli A3 și copiii au încercuit denumirile statelor membre direct pe hârtie, lucrând în echipe alcătuite din patru sau cinci elevi.
În final, mi-am propus o activitate muzicală. Așa că am scos Boomwhackers-urile (bețele muzicale colorate) și am interpretat, cu toții, Oda Bucuriei/ Imnul Uniunii Europene. O variantă simplă și clară găsiți pe Youtube, mai jos. Erau deja obișnuiți să lucreze cu Boomwhackers-urile – adică știu cum anume să le lovească pentru a produce sunete muzicale, au învățat corespondența culorilor și au dobândit o anumită disciplină și lovesc numai când le vine rândul, urmărind culoarea ce le-a fost atribuită pe ecran. De aceea, nu a fost deloc greu pentru ei și pot spune că au învățat cântecelul destul de binișor după ce au exersat doar de vreo patru sau cinci ori.
Europe Day in K 0
In the 2021-2022 school year, May 9th was on a Monday. Even though last year I taught at the preparatory class (K 0), I wanted to somehow mark the event.
I explained to my little ones what we celebrate on May 9th, what the European Union is (making sure to emphasize that it is not the same as Europe - the continent - and that not all countries in Europe are also part of the European Union), as well as the anthem and the flag of the European Union. I used, in part, the Powerpoint presentation Romania and the European Union from Twinkl, which is very well done. It's just that in the preparatory class it didn't seem relevant to me to discuss institutions, population, area, years or the advantages of being a member state of the European Union, so I skipped those slides.
The first activity we carried out, in teams, was a geographical puzzle. I downloaded the map with the member states of the European Union from the official website of the European Union and turned it into a puzzle which I then listed on A3 sheets, in color and cut out all the puzzle pieces, taking care to collect them in envelopes for each team. Afterwards, I gave each team an A3 sheet and glue (stick). On the SMART board I displayed the complete map of the EU member states, so that the children could help themselves with the completed model. They enjoyed this exercise and it didn't take them long to complete.
The second activity was based on another Twinkl resource, the European Countries Word Box (an online geography game). I have to say that, with this class, we had studied all the letters of the alphabet by May and all the children could already read. Of course, at different paces and with better or less developed skills to understand the read message. That's why I made sure, when I formed the teams, that they were as balanced as possible, so that the children who already know how to read quickly and well can support those who still need help. It was not easy for them to orient themselves in this field, even if they had worked on this type of exercise before, because they were not familiar with the names of some of the member states of the European Union (Malta was particularly problematic). So it would be useful to discuss a little which are the member states of the European Union and even write them down, in capital letters, on the board. I listed this game on A3 sheets and the children circled the names of the member states directly on paper, working in teams of four or five students.
Finally, I proposed a musical activity. So we got our Boomwhackers (colored musical sticks) out and we all sang the Ode to Joy/European Union Anthem. You can find a simple and clear version on Youtube, below. They were already used to working with Boomwhackers – meaning they know exactly how to hit them so as to make musical sounds, they've learned the color matching and acquired a certain discipline, and they only hit when it's their turn, following the color assigned to them on the screen. Therefore, it was not difficult for them at all, and I can say that they learned the song fairly well after only practicing about four or five times.
